Hotter'N Hell Review Part 1 Bono's Chophouse and Saloon

Bono's Chophouse and Saloon

http://www.bonossaloon.com

My father and I ended up at Bono's around Decatur Texas on the way the the Hotter'N Hell in Wichita Falls. This place was probably the best thing we could have hoped for on that 3 hour car ride. There wasn't much else on the way besides what we could of gotten in Denton. This place was big. The picture doesn't do it justice but the roof seemed to exceed what I would have though had been a sensible height. It was pretty neat and you could tell it was the towns cool place to go on weekends to listen to bands. Bono's must be fairly new and if it isn't it at least least looked that way.

Me and my dad ended up with buffalo burgers(with the works + Jalapenos and Mushrooms) with sweet potato fries. Needless to say it was delicious. It took a while for it to come out (20-30 minutes) considering that there were only 2 other tables in the whole place but the food sure hit the spot. We ended up doing the same thing on the way home except I tried the beer battered fries which were pretty good as well.

 Rating: 9/10

Since the second time around they were able to make the burgers a little faster I decided to bump the to a 9. I am a sucker for wild game plus they had tons of barbecue I would love to try again some time. I don't think I am going to make the 40 minute drive out there from Denton anytime soon but If I am 10 minutes away I will definitely check Bono's out again.

Denton's Greenhouse Margarita

No that is not a picture of the margarita at Greenhouse but it looks very similar. Sadly the refrigerating unit that keeps the taps cold broke so I ended up with a Mexican mixed drink. The mixture is dispensed from a machine like an ICEE and the drink is as refreshing as one. I do have to say that it is a tad too sweet for me but I think that is how most people like it. This R-rated slurpee is sure to scratch the itch of a margarita lover. Thought I wouldn't say this is anywhere near the best margarita I have had I would also say it isn't the worst either.

How it was tasted: In a margarita glass with salt on the rim at Greenhouse.

Ziegenbock

This smooth amber beer is a tasty larger. Brewed and only sold in Texas, Ziegenbock is not our states best beer but for the price it is hard to beat. Ziegenbock has a sweet taste and though it is dark in color this beer is not as filling as it looks.

The Labb is a clean sports bar in Denton Texas that sells $1 Ziegens every Mavricks and Rangers game. This is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the sport minus actually being there.

How it was tasted:From the tap in a glass at The Labb.

Guest Blogger Preston Bell Reviews Cowboys and Aliens

Preston does not have his own blog but has agreed to throw me a review here and there.

I had been anticipating this movie for a while now. This movie was entertaining and worth the money I paid for it. Not the best sci-fi film in the world but the idea was interesting and I would go see it again. Aliens coming down to invade Earth during the western times is genius.
Daniel Craig plays the guy who is kidnapped by aliens and left in the middle of the desert. At the very beginning we find him waking up with the strange device on his arm and he has no idea what happened. He has to find out where he is and he eventually finds out the powers of the device when the aliens attack the village. It is a good start to the film and I won't give anything more away, you would have to see the film for yourself. The execution could have been a little bit better throughout the movie though. Acting was pretty decent and the movie will keep you interested throughout most of it.

Overall, I would give this movie a 7.5 out of 10.

Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale

Oh Dogfish Head. The makers of one of the best IPAs and from what I hear go through a lot of research for all of their beers. This is a dark beer that does not have a strong taste though you can tell that Dogfish Head uses caramelized sugar. This Indian Brown Ale is not very crisp/ carbonated but it gets the job done. This would be a good dark beer to easy novices into more potent tasting dark beers.

How it was tasted: Out of a glass at Flying Saucer in Austin.

Rating: 9/10
1-2= Disgusting
3-4= Not worth the calories
5-6= Average
7-8= Good
9-10= One of my favorite beers

Unibroue Trois Pistoles

You know you are having a Unibroue when you are having a delicious and artistic beer. So besides the epic art what else makes Trois Pistoles so great?

This is a strong dark ale which is refermented in the bottle. Trois Pistoles has a sweet taste as well as a pleasant aftertaste. You only catch a hint of chocolate, brown rum and spices. I ended up drinking this beer by the pool but I would not recommend it. It would be best enjoyed chilled in a glass and sipped on while perhaps smoking a cigar with your friends.

How it was tasted: by the pool. Not recommended.

Molson Canadian

Molson is owned by Molson-Coors Canada Inc. , go figure. So when you think of Molson you should think of Coors not only because of the name but because Molson has a similar domestic beer taste. This isn't a beer to write home about but if you want to fly your Canadian flag high while pre-gaming a hockey game, then this is the beer for you.

How it was tasted: out of the bottle by the pool.

Rating: 6/10

Samuel Adams Summer Ale

This seasonal brew is a nice wheat ale brewed with lemon peels. It is truly refreshing on a hot summers day. The lemon does not over power the drink but adds a nice slight citrus taste. This is also not a heavy beer, like the original Samuel Adams, nor is it a light beer (like a Corona) but I think it is a marriage of the two.

How it was tasted: Out of the bottle.

Rating: 8/10
1-2= Disgusting
3-4= Not worth the calories
5-6= Average
7-8= Good
9-10= One of my favorite beers

Limbo - indie game

Limbo is one of the most interesting games I have played in a while. I heard about it when it came out on Xbox Arcade and everyone thought it was good. So when it came out on PC a few days ago I thought I would give it a shot.

The whole game has a film noir aspect to it as you can see by the photo. There are many enemies the boy encounters while having to solve puzzles in order to proceed through the game. The mechanics are simple since you can either move,  jump or grab an object. This means anyone can pick up this title without worrying about getting owned or more appropriately |o\/\/|\|3|). The whole story is purposely vague in order for the reader to interpret what is happening. All we are given is "Uncertain of his sister's fate, a boy enters LIMBO". I think this adds more to the game though if I am correct the story does seem appealing either way.

My only complaint is that this game is pretty short. You could probably finish it in a few hours depending on if you get stuck or not. Even with this gripe I will go ahead and bump it up to a 9.

How it was tasted: played on a PC through steam. http://store.steampowered.com/app/48000/

3-4= not worth it

Cheeky Monkey

I discovered this mixed drink at the Flying Saucer this Saturday. I have to say it was not at all what I was hoping for. Golden Monkey beer by Victory Brewing company is on of my favorite beers (though I have not yet reviewed it), so I was excited to see it on the mix drink list at the Flying Saucer. I have never had Framboise before so I had no idea how much it would sweeten this mix drink. I dare say it was close to being as sweet as a Smirnoff ice *shivers*. Though that is a slight exaggeration, Framboise did not add anything the beer. I dare say it just tainted the Golden Monkey. I believe that people who like their drinks/ beers a little more on the sweet side will enjoy this concoction since it isn't too bad. I do ask that you try Golden Monkey by itself before you judge it based on this Cheeky Monkey.

How it was tasted: at the flying saucer in a glass.

Green's Discovery (Amber Ale)

This is a nice gluten free beer. I personally don't have to worry about gluten or how it affects me but if I did this wouldn't be the worst beer for me to par-take in. I do have to note that this beer seems to lack some flavor, especially for an amber beer. I think that is the cost of making a beer gluten free or making a beer "light". Even though it lacks some amber beer flavor it does have an odd musk of its own that reminds me of licking a Rain forest scented air freshener.

How it was tasted: at the flying saucer in a glass.

Real Ale Full Moon Rye Pale Ale

This beer has a light taste of the bitterness that pale ales are known for. Most of the people who know pale ales think about Dogfish Head 60/90 Minute Pale Ale which gives you a strong punch of that pale ale taste. This is no where near that potent but this is an interesting take on a pale ale with a dash of the bitterness. Perhaps this is a way to work a friend into liking Dogfish head.

Shark Week Review!

So it is Shark Week and I have missed some of the episodes but they will be back on later so here are a few reviews I have in so far.

Rouge Shark
The title pretty much covers the premise. Do sharks go rouge like Sarah Palin (or like the official premise says "Jaws")? Well PETA would not let Discovery Channel say that Sharks are out to kill us (and I bet Discovery Channel wouldn't want to do that anyway.) so the answer is of course no. The HD scenes are what really save this segment but their wasn't really much substance to it. Every time something happened the watcher was asked something along the lines "Could this mean that a great white shark went rouge and kill Emily on purpose?". Anyone who has watched a Shark Week (this is my second time) or has watched one show about sharks would know the real reason why each thing happened.

It is worth a watch but it is not the best of Shark Week.

Rating: 6/10
1-2 = Painful
3-4 = Bad
5-6 = Average
7-8 = Good
9-10 = One my favorites

Summer of the Shark
This is a bit more of what one should expect from Shark Week. In the summer of 2008 an unprecedented wave of shark attacks sweeps the eastern coast of Australia. People tell their stories about the incidents we get to watch re-enactments. Also they give some details on why there have been so many more attacks. That is the Shark Week I have know to love.

Rating: 8/10

Killer Sharks
Though the title sounds like a C movie you would find at the back of a Blockbuster if Blockbuster was around anymore this show was actually really good. It tells the story of how in the December of 1957 in a small tourist city in South America there was a wave of shark attacks. This could have been a short film with beginner actors and writers but a crap load of money for special effects. The story follows a Mayor who doesn't want to scare away tourist so he keeps the beaches open as long as he can, a scientist who is trying to get to the bottom of this mess, and the victims of the attacks. The best thing about it is sometimes the director sends 2 people in the water so you don't know which one is going to get the teeth.

Rating: 9/10

I will have more for you in the next few days. Also I apologies for the errors but I had some problems with the font and sizing. I ended up writing this twice and I still think it is off a bit.

Sam Adams Light

Sam Adams Light is probably what you would expect a light beer to be. It has less flavor than the original and isn't that satisfying. As far as beers go it is as close to the original Sam Adams taste as you can get without having the majority of the calories.

I don't know why one would buy this beer since the original is very tasty and this light beer is a pale comparison but if you are a big fan of Sam Adams beer this might be for you.

How it was tasted: Out of the bottle.
